ESS goggles are said to be the most protective eye wear money can buy. Legend has it, and because I am to lazy to cite any information, that they can stop a .22 bullet fired around 1000 FPS. Considering the max allowed at games is around 550 fps with a 6mm .2 gram bb I would say these goggles are by far the safest you can purchase. +1 for not wanting to cite information.
With that said, the typical price range for a brand new pair is about 70 dollars. I found 5 used Pairs on eBay for 36 dollars and bought new lenses for 20 dollars for one pair. +2 for eBay
The thing I love most about these goggles is the comfort. Compared to the other favorite goggle of choice, Arena Flak Jaks, these goggles are by far the best in comfort, at least in my own opinion. I say this because they are smaller than the Flak Jaks and don't pinch my nose when I wear my Mich 2000 helmet. +1 for comfort
Fogging is the most notorious issue when it comes to airsoft. In winter your body heat causes your cold lenses to fog up and in the summer the humidity from the air causes you to sweat your brains off into the goggles. So far, in my experience, the Flak Jaks are really really good at not fogging until you get the lenses wet. What happened to me was that I dropped my pair in the snow and the snow literally ate away at the defog that was on the lenses. So it fogged in some spots and didn't fog in other spots. So if you keep your Flak Jaks dry, you will be good to go, but this isn't a review on the Flak Jaks.
I never actually got a chance to use a pair of ESS goggles in the winter. I just used the new pair yesterday. At first, I was excited because when I put them on I could see through them like a clear window. It was like I wasn't even wearing them, until, I started to sweat. The condensation that built up on my lenses actually cracked away the layer of Defog. That is right, it cracked it away. ESS puts a very thin clear lining on their lenses that create the defog. My sweat ate it away within 20 minutes. Now its either my sweat is acid and I should head off to the doctor, or ESS gave me a faulty lense, or that these goggles are crap and I should not recommend these to anyone. -5 because fogging sucks ass.
So over all I give these goggles a 4 out of 10. But I am for second chances and am willing to give them that. Maybe the lenses I purchased were faulty. It happens. But for now, I am leaving them with the horrible score.
